just another good girl gone bad

May 30th, 2009

The first time I ever heard this track I wanted to hear it again. And the second time I wanted to share it. It wasn’t just the title and lyrics - mama’s little princess gone bad – but Tarrus Riley’s sweet vocal style next to the more youthful and coarser vocals from Koshens added roots/dancehall crossover appeal. Critical acclaim has been rising up around this man in a creschendo, including Jambase claiming that ‘not even ten chariots with horses could stop him’  and AOL music describing him as ‘one of the most promising of the of the second generation of Jamaican reggae roots singers’. Ok so chariots with horses don’t mean much, and AOL music might not be the voice of authority when it comes to reggae artists – but with 15k fans on fb and myspace, and a couple of albums and big hits under his belt already, they can’t be all wrong. Plus, as soon as you hear the track you should agree that Tarrus [and Koshens] is pretty much a big deal. The good girl gone bad acting stush at 1minute57 fits the track to a T…
