ferris real [estate] August 14th, 2009

To anyone who – like me – wished you were Ferris Beuller [or at least one of his friends], this post will surely be of interest. There is no argument to be had, he was the man, and his day off the subject of one of the classics of our time. Be it his cheeky swagger, ingenuity [boy I used to wish I could hook up my room like he did] or total recklessness [think Ferrari and this, the Ben Rose House in Chicago], the chance to own anything he had always was – and I guess still is – an exciting prospect. I’ve come a long way since those days, but sadly not quite far enough to be able to fork out $2.3m for a piece of teen cinema history. If you can though, head to Sotheby’s…

try life in another language January 12th, 2009

As strong advocates of learning a second, third, fourth or fifth language we couldn’t help noticing this Channel 4 advert for their new initiative encouraging British youth to learn another language to make the most of what Europe has to offer. Plus the soundtrack from Parisian/Senegalese rapper Disiz la Peste, and some nice animation make it even more eyecatching.
Apparently Disiz’s music is about the social problems faced by French youth, and breaks down barriers between countries, races, rich and poor - but even with top grades in GCSE French we haven’t got a flipping clue what he’s talking about. Still, if what the critics say is true, his profile not only suits Try Life in Another Language to a T but deserves a post here too. Plus the 1,089,497 people who have watched his video [below] can’t be wrong…

sicker than your average January 8th, 2009

Last night saw the New York premiere of the eagerly anticipated story of the life and death of Christopher Biggie Wallace: Notorious. As one MTV reporter put it, with a guestlist including Biggie’s mum, Diddy, Faith Evans, Junior MAFIA, Jay-Z, NaS, Busta, Beyonce, Ciara, Jadakiss, Fabolous, and Russell Simmons, the only person missing was BIG himself. The film was deemed to have exceeded expectations, a fitting hommage to BIG, and true to form the after party at Roseland Ballroom went on until the early hours of this morning. It was said to have been like a scene out of Biggie’s life, with Faith Evans claiming it was like 1995 all over again.
…and if you’re wondering why the picture is of Jay-Z arriving at the premiere, not a shot of The Notorious, the answer is just because.
