ralph lauren was borin before i wore em January 28th, 2009

I was seriously in two minds about posting this - mainly because as previously stated I actually like Kanye, and this clip doesn’t exactly do him any favours. In fact it simply serves to fuel his critics. I’d even go so far as to say it almost swayed me. Either way, we realised that most people who read the previous post want to see the clip, so here it is. Judge for yourself…
Whether it’s his total lack of humility, the fact that he is so far out of touch with reality, or simply his new haircut that winds you up, there is surely no debate as to his talent as a producer or entertainer - as epitomised by the title of this post, taken from his performance of Bitter Sweet at Def Poetry Jam. Actually that line alone demonstrates both the strength and weakness of Mr West’s character…

a kid named cudi January 26th, 2009

This isn’t the first time Cudi from Cleveland has been mentioned here, and it probably wont be the last, but even the king of over-inflated egos Mr West [or Martin Louis King Jr as he now calls himself - did you see that clip of him in Paris? damn. Take a look at yourself Ye] says this guy is an inspiration. To hear those words from those lips practically justifies a post in itself - and don’t get me wrong, I actually like Kanye - but fortunately there is something with a little more substance to talk about: A Kid Name Cudi. Cudi’s mixtape, released by 10Deep [best know for their clothing line] features 16 tracks plus an intro, all without any famous guest appearances, and all showcasing Kid Cudi’s skills. To cap it all off, he describes the Uk grime and dubstep scenes as dope, and is looking to hook up with Dizzee in 2009…

turn the music up / turn me down January 26th, 2009

Following on from Viva La Hova we bring you Jaydiohead. Likewise the title gives this one away, but it has received rave reviews, and is widely perceived to be another modern masterpiece. what it do, what it does / originality is the key January 25th, 2009

Yes its Jeezy again, and no it isn’t a million miles away from Belvedere’s Luxury Reborn campaign or Kelis’ Bossy video cinematographically, but this campaign to celebrate 60 Years of Soles and Stripes from Adidas is amazing. We saw it at the cinema, before Slumdog Millionaire - which incidentally is incredible, well worth a watch - and chose to feature the ad over the film. Its not only because Slumdog has had more than its fair share of column inches and blog posts recently, and nothing to do with the quality of the film - again it is of the highest calibre - but put simply the Adidas Celebrate Originality campaign just fits the bill better… even if the cast - including Jeezy, Estelle, Russell Simmons, Missy, Meth, Red, and David Beckham - is more mainstream than that of the film…

nuthin but a leGo thang January 24th, 2009

Format, the online lifestyle magazine who describe their mission as simple: to expose influential and interesting elements of the urban aesthetic as it relates to progressive youth subcultures, took it upon themselves to recreate 20 classic hip hop album covers in Lego. They’re not perfectly executed, and by the looks of things Lego don’t make black figures, but it’s a great concept: recreating the soundtrack of our teens with the toys of our childhood…

irrational, emotive, inexplicable January 23rd, 2009
There is little more to say about this - apart from that it’s a prime example of successful, effective viral advertising. There is no need to ask why, or think ‘I don’t get it‘… you don’t need to. Try explaining the gorilla to someone who hasn’t seen it…

one glass of champagne for me / two glass of champagne for you January 23rd, 2009

If truth be told, this is not strictly champagne, but a prosecco - champagne’s generally perceived inferior Italian cousin. All prosecco comes from the white italian grape of the same name, but this one - Prosecco Gold - is a doc prosecco made from a careful selection of grapes grown in the mineral rich hills around Col San Martin. The bottle design is intended to reflect the exclusivity of this prosecco, and it comes in a black velvet bag to compliment this.

if london is a watercolour, new york is an oil painting January 21st, 2009

It’s still very much in development - and promises new new functionality shortly - but even as it is, ifeelLondon/New York/Toronto is an interesting twist on the conventional city guide. Created by Poke London’s Andy Whitlock, the site allows users to browse what London/New York/Toronto has to offer, dependent on your mood. A simple concept yes, perfectly executed no, but worth a look? Definitely…

don’t worry why my wrists got so freeze January 21st, 2009

Lil Wayne put these on the map with the video to his world famous track of the same name, which could be heard playing from the swankiest London clubs to the favelas of Rio de Janeiro - and everywhere in between - in 2008. For those of us who don’t live in Louisiana or any of the other 49 states of America you have to order online, and a case of 36 comes in at $39.60 (excl. postage). Flavours include Cherry Cherry Cherry, Orange You Lucky, Grape of Spades, and 4 of a Lime - and having tried them ourselves we can safely say that the names, like the taste, don’t justify the pricetag - but boy do they look good…

rhythm and booze January 20th, 2009

Love nightclub in DC played host to the Belvedere Presents: Young Jeezy’s Inauguration Celebration Presidential Status party on Sunday night - to kick off a series of events celebrating Obama’s now official presidential status. Not only was Young Jeezy present - no surprises there - but other stars turned up too, including TI, Beyonce, Akon, and Jay-Z.
Jigga’s impromptu performace of his remix of Jeezy’s My President Is Black was captured on camera [below], along with plenty of Belvedere Vodka, showing just how crazy this party was…
