even if it aint broke, f1X it February 9th, 2009

Conceptually created by the experts at Belvedere, visually defined by Parisian street art icon Andre, and turned into reality by a top London packaging design agency, 1X launched on Thursday night at My House in LA. With a host of celebrities present, including Kanye ‘caps locks’ West and Kim Kardashian, and the one-X flowing until the early hours, the launch was by all accounts a storming success. The only negative to be drawn is that the Capicú invitation was left to gather dust on the cutting room floor due to logistical problems. Still, maybe we can be there for the rest of world launch party at the Cannes Film Festival in May..
The 1X proposition is far from simple: a skillfull infusion of belvy vodka and 9 natural ingredients including açaí, ginger, and guaraná - the type of alcoholic alchemy traditionally reserved for the world of gin – but executed with the perfection and finesse only to be expected from the world’s leading premium vodka brand.

gucci welly February 3rd, 2009

Yes the title sounds like the title of arguably QB’s Finest’s greatest track, the same track that defines a time in all our lives, and no that didn’t happen by chance… but in case anybody is wondering: the content comes first then the title. The featured content here was inspired by the recent freak weather, and more specifically the freaky footwear people seem to think it’s ok to wear. When it comes to wellies, if they’re not Hunter [or at least look like they are] they shouldn’t be on your feet. No, bright pink ones with dogs on really aren’t cool. BUT having said that, these from Gucci definitely are. A simple, understated, contemporary branded twist on a design classic. And if you’re having trouble remembering the equally classic track in question from QB, here it is:

stacks on deck February 3rd, 2009

These chocolate casino chips are featured for no reason beyond their aesthetic appeal. After a typically chocolate heavy couple of months, where barely a day passed without seeing a chocolate coin, these offer a refreshing alternative. Yes somebody tried to make chocolate bank notes, but do me a favour, these look ten times better – and are probably a good idea for any beginners to practice with before hitting Vegas…
Exclusively available online from GoCandy and the price depends on quantity.

sube el telón February 2nd, 2009

We’re over a month in, and yet to write a single latin-themed post. What better way to start delivering that latin twang promised in our name than through music, and hopefully before we put anybody’s nose out of joint. This video is wack, we’re not going to try to sugar coat that fact in any way… but the track from Rookie featuring De la Ghetto is definately not. In fact it’s nothing short of masacre musical. Formerly part of a double act with fellow reggaetonero Arcángel, New Yorican De La Ghetto [aka De La Geezy, o El Jefe Del Bloque] lived in Europe and Seattle in his childhood, before settling in Puerto Rico. He has since collaborated with all the kings of the genre, including Alex y Fido, Hector El Father, Tito El Bambino, Julio Voltio, Tego Calde, Ñejo y Dálmata, the list goes on…
If your ears have pricked up to the sound of reggaeton and/or De La Ghetto check out his track with Movado [below]. It’s not reggaeton, but it IS De La Geezy, and definitely worth listening to:

like esquire: aspire to inspire before you expire February 2nd, 2009

The title to this one might be a cliché, and a bit of a mouthful, but it’s a thought provoking proverb nonetheless – and importantly rhymes with Esquire, who are this month running a feature in which Tony Hart’s legendary character Morph is recreated wearing this season’s latest threads from Hermes, Gucci and Prada. Apparently the feature was always due to be published this month, but it turns out to be a timely tribute to the legendary artist and star of our childhood screens, whose funeral was on Friday. Rest in peace Tony. The featured issue is out on Thursday.

maybe it’s how i pour that patron / maybe it’s how i smell of paris hilton cologne February 2nd, 2009

It’s February and we still haven’t mentioned Patrón, so this one is coming dangerously close to being old news. Also the fact that there haven’t been any posts for a few days – partly down to the heaviest snow the Uk has seen in nearly 20 years, and partly down to some technical difficulties – makes this post long overdue. Patrón is THE word to be heard at bars from Brooklyn to Berlin right now - and an iconic, contemporary yet traditional bottle design helped create this buzz. Established in Las Vegas in 1989, the brand has grown to the number 3 tequila brand in the world [after Jose Cuervo and Sauza] and is the number 1 super premium spirit distilled purely from agave. They’ve just entered the Mexican market after a long search for a suitable partner to sell a premium tequila, and are available in 90 countries worldwide. Whilst distribution is limited to select retailers and establishments, there’s hardly a rapper out there who hasn’t mentioned Patrón in their music lately - bar those contractually bound to other premium spirit brands. The Game’s lyric from Dope Boys [the title of this post] stands out. Not because we would ever, ever smell of Paris Hilton cologne – or advocate it’s use – but because for a while now we have been, and will continue to be pouring that Patrón…
