fuck the bus the benz is park like rosa

July 22nd, 2009

At last there’s a video for what is arguably the best, and certainly the most catchy track on dat kid from Cleveland [and the upcoming Man on the Moon]. I’ve been wanting to post this track ever since I first heard it back in April, and thankfully the release of this refreshingly original video gives reason to. If Cudders‘ clever and timely sampling of Lady Gaga’s Poker Face vocals isn’t enough to earn this the thumbs up, fresh and conscious verses from Kanye [especially this title post] and Common surely must. With 82k views in 2 days, I can’t be the only one pushing this…

riding for love

July 21st, 2009

This latest track from London born producer/songwriter DaVinChe [at 23 seconds for those that don't know] features a grimey bassline and smooth vocals from Clea. Bashy aka Bish Bash Bosh on the autotune - who himself seems hell-bent on making it to the top of his game - serves as the mere icing on the cake. This isn’t the first time DaVinChe has produced for the UK’s biggest artists - he was also responsible for Kano’s Brown Eyes and grime sensation Ps and Qs. Trained as a classical pianist and guitarist, it’s little wonder he’s rising fast. This surely isn’t the last we’ll see [or hear] of him…

the best he ever had

drake

It seems that wherever you stop, look and listen these days you see [and hear] Toronto born Drake. Rightly so you could argue, he’s certainly making moves right now - having signed to Weezy’s Young Money Entertainment and frequently collaborating with the likes of Jay-Z, Trey Songz, Kanye and of course Lil Wayne.
The video to his latest effort The Best I Ever Had [below] was directed by Kanye - which won’t surprise anyone who’s watched it - and I wanted to let the dust settle on this one before entering the fray. The consensus seems to be that the track gets the thumbs up, but the video on the other hand falls foul of the mark it seems - it’s been slated and widely dubbed predictable and disappointing. In music as in politics, the majority isn’t always right though - judge for yourself…

between a rock and a hard place

Following on from last month’s Crayon rings, the second of today’s posts also features rings crafted from materials ordinarily reserved for other purposes.

The handmade concrete rings from Taiwanese 22 Design Studio aren’t cheap at $65 [above] and $54 [below] - plus you’ll need to fork out for international shipping - but their industrial forms create appeal you wouldn’t usually expect in jewellery…

This piece - the Tyvek Wallet from New York based Designomighty Design - is the first of a brace of design posts today. It’s neither that I’m getting blasé nor zealous with my posting, but simply that Capicú has been away for the weekend, in the city of love, and the trip inspired me to show the site some love in return.

These 2 posts are intended to put a product out there for no deeper reason than their aesthetic beauty and design mertits. They don’t require - or even necessarily deserve - great explanation or debate and are, as you’ll see, simply a celebration of great modern product design.

The wallet is made from one single piece of tyvek, eliminating stiching and therefore meaning it shouldn’t fall apart as quickly as conventional stitched leather wallets. Obviously designed to replicate an air mail envelope, it is proving very popular internationally, and selling out fast. If you’re quick enough they’re available here

This parody of Boy Better Know’s current smash Too Many Men - from Jason Lewis of the critically acclaimed The Jason Lewis Experience - earned a “Haggahaajahahahahahshshsh” from JME [source: Twitter]. The video features a Girl Better Grow Tshirt, which presumably gains his approval too - unlike the knock off Girl Better Blow ones that’ve been flying off the marketstall rails since last year. It is in the spirit of the video after all. Littered with comic lines [case in point: the subjet of this post], and a subject matter close to too many man’s hearts, this is guaranteed to get mad exposure…

blame it on the goose, got you feeling loose / blame it on patrón, got you in the zone

July 9th, 2009

A wise man once said to me nothing ventured nothing gained, and I know this wont win me any British fans, but if you don’t take risks you wont get anywhere in life.

So it’s way too late to post Jamie Foxx’s original Blame It alone… but then along came this parody version from Alphacat [below]. Ok it’s riddled with Americanisms and by the end you’ll probably be as bored as I was, but setting those two facts aside it might just put a smile on your face. For a bit…

I’m a dreamer. Not the type to fall asleep beneath the flowers for a couple of hours on a beautiful day - but I do have ambition and aspire to things. Desire drives me and aesthetic beauty is my motivation - both of which power this particular post. It’s likely that none of us could afford a boat like this [unless Capicú's arms reach further than I thought] but most of us appreciate beautiful design and fine form. For those reasons, here is the Hybrid 757 St. Tropez Boat  by Austrian boat builders Frauscher. If the hand stitched leather upholstery and superior decking isn’t enough, it’s also the world’s first luxury motor boat with an environmentally friendly hybrid engine. The Bentley of boats - a snip at €165k…

no love like a love lost / no pain like a broken heart

jaz2

Forget Jazmine Sullivan, Kate Bond is one jaded lover. Not content at busting the windows out his car, she resorts to stamping the hands off his Tag, smashing his mum’s dinner plates, and throwing his threads off the balcony too. I know I’ve got to tread carefully here, but whatever Dean Constable did, surely it’s fair to say his ex is more than a little bit crazy. To see the video itself [along with a vain and slightly pathetic, yet defiant attempt to prove she isn't competely bonkers] you’ll have to search for yourself. Before you start slating me for that it’s simply because her choice language on the video graphics drag it down and out of the acceptable limits for content posted here.
What does make the grade however is comedian and actor Eddie Kadi’s comic reply to the original video. Equally ridiculous? Yes. Just as entertaining? For sure. My poking game’s on point

domino_emboss2

Six months in and still Capicú rolls on, every bit as passionate and every bit as proud.

Regrets are few but forever felt, and I’d be lying to myself and everyone else if I was to claim I’d been as dedicated and attentive as I’d have liked to have been. That said there is a steady flow of you who share with me a common interest, and as long as that continues I’ll strive to put a product out there.
To mark the six month mile post, with a little help from my friends we have introduced a menu page to build a branded presence and make the site more interactive. Eyebrows were raised at the concept, and concerns voiced - with good reason - but the belief that Capicú needs this drove me on, against the advice of those who probably know best, and the domino was conceived and implemented.

Intrinsically linked to Capicú, the domino is the perfect symbol to represent the brand, and ultimately if the menu page is enough to stop you checking back then you probably shouldn’t be here in the first place. That said, feedback is always welcomed - whatever it may be - so message me if you feel strongly and I’ll see what we can do…
